Rugby Events to Bet On

Just getting into rugby betting and trying to decide what to wager on?  One of the cool things about rugby is that it is a vastly popular international sport and there is always something going on.  Rugby has a number of large and small ongoing events you can follow. 

• The Rugby World Cup.  In Rugby Union, this is the big event.  It happens once every four years.  The first World Cup took place in 1987.  The most recent took place in 2015, and was won by New Zealand.  The next event is set to be hosted by Japan in 2019.

• Six Nations.  This is the big event in Rugby Union which you can wager on every year.  As the name implies, it involves teams from six European countries: England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, France, and Italy.  Six Nations replaced the Home Nations Championship, which was the original international rugby union tournament.  But whereas Home Nations only involved UK countries, Six Nations added on France and Italy.  Within Six Nations, there are a number of sub-trophies which are awarded.  These include the Calcutta cup, the Triple Crown Trophy, the Millennium Trophy, the Centenary Quaich, and the Giuseppe Garibaldi Trophy.

• There are various domestic Rugby Union events you can follow as well, such as the Heineken cup, the RFU Championship, and the Aviva Premiership. 

• Tons of Rugby League events exist as well.  Some of the big ones include the Championship, the Challenge Cup, and the Northern Rail Cup.  There is also the Rugby League World Cup—not to be confused with the Rugby World Cup for Rugby Union.  The most recent Rugby League World Cup took place in 2013 and was won by Australia (teams from fourteen different countries participated).  The next is set for 2017.

On top of all of those big events, there are also numerous smaller events that you can wager on regionally and locally.

There are many different types of rugby bets you can place on the best uk betting sites, but two of the most common are match bets and futures bets. 

• A match bet is exactly what it sounds like.  You are betting on the outcome of a particular match.  

• An outright or outright / futures bet is a longer-term wager on the outcome of an entire tournament. 

If you are new to rugby betting, it is best to start out with simple match bets.  It is easier to predict the outcome of an upcoming match than it is to predict the outcome of an entire tournament.  So many unexpected factors can influence the outcome of any given match; for a tournament, that uncertainty compounds rapidly. 

Once you start to get a feel for wagering on individual matches, you may learn enough to begin predicting seasonal outcomes.  The later you bet in a season, the higher your chances are of winning a futures bet.  But your payouts will be smaller as well.  You can score a huge payout if you can successfully guess how a tournament will end at its beginning.  You are unlikely to win however; it is incredibly hard to make an accurate prediction so early in the season!
