What Type of Punter Are You?

When you are choosing an online betting site, you are shopping for a suite of features that will help you get the most out of betting.  In order to make the right choice, though, you need to know what you are looking for based on why you are betting in the first place.  There are so many different motivations that bring punters to bookies, and it can really pay off to ask yourself what you want to get out of this experience.

• The casual punter.  The key word here is “fun.”  If you are betting because you love the thrill of not knowing whether you will win or lose, you are a casual punter.  Look for big bonuses, online betting sites that let you wager on your favorite games, and other features that can enhance your enjoyment.

• The ego-driven punter.  Do you like to bet so you can feel smart when you win?  If so, you are not a totally casual bettor (you may even be a very serious one).  Take advantage of your ambition and harness it to learn.  Be wary though of the common pitfall for this type of investor, which is conceit. 

• The semi-serious punter.  This type of punter is hoping to make a little extra money, but may not be committing a lot of time to learning.  He or she might learn a few strategies, but may not have a comprehensive betting system.  A semi-serious bettor may still shop the lines, however.

• The serious punter.  Semi-professional punters and full-time professional punters fall into this category.  If you are here, you are as far from casual as you can get.  When you look for a betting site, look for sites that offer competitive odds and other valuable features that can help you win again and again.

These are not distinct categories; they are really more of a spectrum.  You even could fall into more than one category.  You could for example be ego-driven and also betting seriously for money—or you could be ego-driven and entirely casual.  Some punters also mistake themselves for falling into one category when they actually belong in another.  Take an honest self-assessment and ask yourself what is important to you when you are betting.  The more you understand your reasons for wagering, the easier it will be for you to choose betting strategies and products that fit with your needs!
